"Reading and listening at the same time makes it easier for children with NPF" - @fokus_npf
Can you briefly tell us about your experience and background in NPF and working with children?
My name is Jennie Kumpula ( instagram ) and I have two children myself, both of whom are diagnosed with autism and ADHD. I have worked as a nurse in psychiatry for 20 years, the last 16 years as a specialist nurse in psychiatry. I have worked with NPF both in the region and in the municipality and currently I work in private care. I work at a BUP clinic with mainly medication follow-ups and psychoeducation.
What are the most common challenges that children with NPF face when it comes to reading and learning?
Being able to maintain focus and concentration. Being able to read and focus on what is actually in the text. If we think about learning, it is also concentration that causes concern but also that people often learn in a slightly different way. Many people have help from visual support.
How can the Readioo reading pen help support children with NPF in their learning?
Being able to both listen and follow the text at the same time makes it much easier. Not having to put as much energy into reading if it is the content itself that is important. If it is about the reading itself, it makes it easier to both hear and see the text at the same time.
How can using Readioo affect children with NPF self-esteem and motivation to read or learn?
Anything that makes it easier is good, they have it tough enough anyway. If the reading becomes more interesting, that is very beneficial. Being able to listen to a text several times is also good.
What kind of books or other products would you like to see that work with the reading pen to support children with NPF?
I would have liked to have books and texts that are also used in school and also for older children and young people. Imagine having a reading pen when it comes to history, religion, biology, etc.
